Target suppliers dispute most deductions in Synergy, an app inside Partners Online. Target's rules are more forgiving on time than many retailers, but stricter on how many times you can try.
Common codes
Target uses well over 200 deduction codes. A few of the most common:
- A030: short ship, fewer cartons shipped than ordered
- A034: short ship, fewer units or case packs than ordered
- A036: pricing variance between the invoice and the receipt
The windows
- Accounts payable deductions: Target will not research claims more than 18 months from the document date shown on the check remittance.
- Collect shipments: dispute within 9 months of the shipping date, which matches Target's own window to claim against its carriers.
- Compliance chargebacks: supplier guides report 3 months from the chargeback date for domestic orders and 6 months for imports.
The two week compliance window
When Target flags a compliance violation, suppliers have about two weeks to request an exemption before it becomes a chargeback. After that, the only way to challenge it is a dispute in Synergy. Watching for new violations in Partners Online is the cheapest way to stop a fine.
Three tries per deduction
Supplier guides report that Target allows the same deduction to be disputed three times. That makes the first dispute the one that matters most. A rushed dispute with weak proof uses up a try.
How to make each try count
- One document number per case. Synergy accepts only one per dispute.
- Research unpaid invoices in Partners Online before opening a dispute.
- Do not dispute with the chargeback document alone. Attach the shipping documents that prove your side.
- Write a short, specific explanation of why the deduction is wrong.
Zenmul reviews Target deductions against your paperwork and prepares dispute files ready for Synergy. You submit them yourself. Zenmul never logs in to Partners Online.
